Something to celebrate! A dandelion bloomed in our yard this morning. The first of the season. The bees have been flying off and on for last few weeks but there’s been nothing for them to forage on. Dandelions represent the first significant pollen source of the year. Pollen equals protein. And the honeybees need lots of it to feed their developing brood. Here in Colorado we aim to time the installation of new bee colonies with the first big dandelion bloom. April 21st is the recommended date. We’re a wee early this year. It’s welcome news. | |
